Landowners: Restore With Us
Our vision for the Wairau Catchment extends beyond public and council land — it includes private land too. We’re working with landowners to help restore unproductive or hard-to-manage areas of farms, vineyards, lifestyle blocks, and rural properties. Even small-scale efforts make a difference. Homeowners in towns and suburbs can also support biodiversity by planting native species in their gardens.
If you’re a landowner in the Wairau Catchment interested in restoring part of your property, we’d love to hear from you. We can help with advice, link you with experts, and possibly help you organise working bees. We’d love for you to be on the Wairau EcoMap – contact us to find out more!
Volunteers: Make a Hands-On Difference
Most restoration projects rely on the passion and dedication of volunteers. Whether you want to get your hands dirty or help behind the scenes, there’s a role for everyone. Volunteering could include planting days, weeding, pest control, seed collecting, propagating native plants, or helping coordinate community events.
It’s a great way to meet like-minded people, build skills, and contribute to a healthier more biodiverse landscape in the Wairau.
Donate native trees
Wairau Nature Network has partnered with Trees for Marlborough, a social enterprise led by Selmes Garden Charitable Trust.
Trees for Marlborough creates purpose, belonging and opportunity for people with intellectual disabilities in Marlborough. Through supported training, meaningful work and pastoral care, native plant restoration becomes a powerful vehicle for social good.
Your donation supports the eco-sourcing and growing of native plants for local restoration projects, while helping participants build skills, confidence and connection.
Wairau Nature Network will then plant these trees through community and educational working bees, giving you – and many others – the chance to directly support the expansion of native habitat across the Wairau Catchment.
